About this place
Stone Owl Cottage sits at the quiet end of Nieu-Bethesda, a village with one shop, a handful of artists, and no traffic to speak of. The cottage was restored using the original yellowwood beams and Karoo stone, with a wood-burning stove for the cold nights and a stoep that catches the morning sun.
There's no cellphone signal to distract you, but there is a fibre line run in specifically for guests who need to keep working. Most people come here to finish something — a manuscript, a thesis, a plan they couldn't make space for at home.
The area
A one-street Karoo village, three hours from Graaff-Reinet, famous for the Owl House and total silence after 8pm.
